HIPAA HITECH and the Five Stages of Grief
In my many conversations and reading of blogs and comments about HIPAA HITECH, I have encountered all the five stages of grief:
1. Denial; HIPAA HITECH does not apply to me.
2.Anger; Why is Congress, Obama, HHS, OCR etc picking on me?
3.Bargaining; I am going to have my congressman get me an exclusion
4.Depression; I am going to quit and retire early.
5.Acceptance; What do I have to do to get compliant?
I might add that it does no good at all to try and point this out to the afflicted parties. All we can do is wait for them to get to acceptance and then provide a solution. Get compliant, stay compliant, and prove compliance.
