HIPAA Business Associate Data Breach

January 6, 2013

In this recent article in HealthcareInfoSecurity.com Marianne McGee, Managing Editor, HealthcareInfoSecurity at Information Security Media Group describes the most recent example of a data breach by a business associate. She goes on to warn covered entities that they need to monitor their business associates to ensure that they are protecting PHI.

Most business associates give little but lip service to the BA agreements that they sign but all of that is going to change in 2013. A combination of better tools for monitoring business associates, stronger rules, and greater enforcement will coalesce to put pressure on business associates to get compliant, stay compliant, and prove compliance.

Compliance Helper will help both sides of this issue. BA Tracker will allow covered entities to better monitor their business associates and the Prepare/Care SaaS programs will provide the business associate with a cost effective and efficient method of getting HIPAA compliant, staying compliant, and proving compliance with the Compliance Meter (tm).
